ENIAC Award

NEW INVESTIGATOR AWARD COMPETITION in EUROPEAN SHOCK RESEARCH

ESS Conference will again hold the prestigious European New Investigator Award Competition (ENIAC) as the central event to feature the best works of junior scientists. Out of all qualifying abstracts submitted by junior scientists* to ENIAC, five top submissions will be selected to the final ENIAC round at the ESS/IFSS Congress in Chania (October 9-11, 2019).

All qualifying abstracts will be scored on merit in a blinded manner by five international expert judges (members of ESS/IFSS). The judges will be selected only after abstract submission process has been closed to avoid any conflict of interest.

Five finalists will present their work in a ten-minute presentation followed by a short Q&A session with a panel of five judges on Thursday, October 10, 2019.

Only the top three places will be ranked according to the total score received.

Winner will be recognized with a commemorative plaque and a cash award of € 600. Second place will receive cash award of € 400 and third place of € 200

In order to be considered for ENIAC, applicants must simply proceed as follows:

1)   Regular submission of the abstract (via the Aegean Abstract Submission portal)

2)   The applicant must be the first author (or equally contributing first author) on the submitted abstract

3)   The applicant must send before the deadline (31st May 2019):
a brief email(including the abstract title) to info@aegeanconferences.orgstating that she/he applies for the ENIAC.

4)   A brief letter from the mentor confirming the participant's junior status* and her/his leading role in the project (pdf).

We stress that only original and previously unpublished research should be submitted to ENIAC. Only one abstract per applicant will be accepted.

*ESS definition of the “junior investigator status”:

Every person, irrespective of age, with maximum of 5 years of post-doc experience (or equivalent e.g. intern/resident etc.) qualifies as a junior scientist. You do not qualify if you currently hold any type of a Professorship appointment (e.g. Assistant Prof., Associate Prof., University Prof. etc.). Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.

All ENIAC applications will be automatically considered for Travel Award(i.e. do not submit a separate letter to be considered for Travel Award). All five ENIAC finalists will automatically receive Travel Award.

All finalists will receive ENIAC participation certificates and awards at the gala dinner on Friday (October 11).
