Numerous studies have pointed to the immune system in the pathogenesis of retinal disease, particularly age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The first International Conference on Inflammation and Retinal Disease will focus on the Complement System, given the powerful human genetic clues that have emerged in the last few years.
